Paulo J. Ferreira, Head of AEMIS Center at INL

Paulo Ferreira coordinates the Advanced Electron Microscopy, Imaging and Spectroscopy Center at INL and leads the Atomic Structure-Composition of Materials Research Group.

Ferreira is also Full Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IST, University of Lisbon, Portugal and an Adjunct Professor, Robert & Jane Mitchell Endowed Faculty Fellowship in Engineering in the Materials Science and Engineering Program at the University of Texas at Austin, USA. see more

Alex Bondarchuk, AEMIS Facility Manager

Alex is a surface scientist with expertise in using state-of the-art surface characterization techniques (XPS/UPS/ AES, SAM/SEM, STM/AFM, etc).

He obtained his PhD from University of Kiev, Ukraine and worked as a Post-Doc at the University of Maryland, Pacific Northwest National Lab, Richland, WA and Fritz Haber Institute, Berlin applying combinations of the surface sensitive methods to relate atomic structure and physicochemical activity for various inorganic materials in the form of thin films, nanoparticles, powders, organic materials and ionic liquids. see more

Oliver Schraidt, AEMIS Facility Manager

Oliver is a biochemist and structural biologist with extensive experience in advanced electron microscopy.

He received his PhD from the University of Vienna in 2010, working at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA) and Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) with (cryo-)electron microscopy on the structure of macromolecular complexes. see more

Alec LaGrow, AEMIS Facility Manager

Alec is a physical chemist with extensive experience in nanomaterial characterization with aberration-corrected electron microscopes and in-situ transmission electron microscopy.

He received his PhD in 2012 from Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, working on the synthesis and structural characterization of shape-controlled nanoparticles. He carried out post-doctoral fellowships from 2013-2018 at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, the University of York, and the University of College London working on the in-situ and ex-situ characterization of nanomaterials. see more

Enrique Carbó-Argibay, Staff Researcher

Enrique Carbo-Argibay is currently a Staff Researcher and Electron Microscopy Facility Manager at INL.

He has a PhD in Physical Chemistry (2011) from the University of Vigo (Spain), where he worked on the synthesis, structural characterization and optical properties of plasmonic nanoparticles.
His research is focused on understanding the structure and chemical composition of doped 2D materials, by using aberration-corrected TEM/STEM coupled with EELS and EDXS techniques.
